If you’ve been following the tech news lately, then you know about the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple’s largest smartphone to date has been all over social media, and for good reason. In their new release, Apple has decided to stray from their usual small upgrade formula and made a phone that is bigger than most people would have expected. Not only is it bigger, but it also boasts an all-new design with an edge-to-edge display and a new stainless steel frame. It’s clear that Apple wants to bring some of their innovation in the iPad Pro to their iPhone lineup as well. However, there are pros and cons to everything. The same can be said about the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In this article, we will discuss every aspect of it and see if it’s something worth investing in or not.
Let’s start with the obvious. The iPhone 12 Pro Max looks different from previous models. It has a larger 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1792 x 2688 pixels. It’s also HDR compatible and supports Dolby Vision. The phone is made out of stainless steel, which is a first for an iPhone. In the past, Apple has been using aluminum for the body of their phones, but with the Pro Max, they’ve opted for a more premium finish. In addition to the new frame, the iPhone 12 Pro Max also comes with an IP68 rating, making it water and dust resistant. This is a feature that has been long overdue for the iPhone lineup. With the addition of IP68, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is now on the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Google Pixel 3.
When you talk about the Pro Max, the first thing you think of is its display. And yes, it’s absolutely gorgeous. The colors are vibrant, and the blacks are inky. It’s one of the best screens on a smartphone that we’ve ever seen. Apple has also made some improvements in the battery department. The iPhone 12 Pro Max claims to last 30 minutes longer than the iPhone 11, which is a significant jump. With 30 extra minutes of usage time, the Pro Max is a great phone for those who are constantly on the go and use their phone for work or school.
When it comes to the design, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a mixed bag. Yes, it looks premium, but it’s so stiff that we’re not sure how durable it is. After bending the iPhone 11, we were worried that the Pro Max would break in two. It’s that stiff. Thankfully, it didn’t, but it’s a little alarming how stiff it is. Another thing about the design is that the Pro Max is also heavy. It weighs in at 208 grams, which is almost 40 grams heavier than the iPhone 11. The extra weight makes it feel a bit unbalanced. It’s a big phone, and we’re not sure if the added weight is worth the bigger screen.
One of the biggest cons to the iPhone 12 Pro Max is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack or Touch ID. To be honest, these two things weren’t hurting the iPhone lineup, but Apple decided to just get rid of them anyway. It’s not clear why they had to remove the headphone jack and Touch ID, but one thing is clear. Apple wants to make the iPhone lineup more and more like the iPad. The lack of a headphone jack means that you’re going to have to get used to wireless headphones. That’s not a big deal, except that the Pro Max doesn’t come with a pair of headphones. You’ll have to buy your own, and most wireless headphones are pricey.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is a beautiful phone that boasts a great display, solid battery life, and water resistance. However, it’s also very stiff and heavy, and it lacks a headphone jack and Touch ID. If you can look past those cons, then the iPhone 12 Pro Max is definitely a great phone that is worth the investment.
